Bernice Fenwick Martin (1902-1999)

Born in Shelbourne, Ontario, Bernice showed artistic talents as a young child. She studied at the Ontario College of Art, where she was mentored by J.W. Beatty, a close friend of Tom Thomson and Franklin Carmichael. A close friend of Peter Sheppard, also a J.W. Beatty student, she and Sheppard visited Muskoka and Parry Sound many times. They sketched en plein air and captured local landscapes in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
